About this event

Introduction to the LWVUS Unite and Rise 8.5 Initiative, how we activate, educate, mobilize and engage to combat an authoritarian takeover of our democracy.

Colorado Fiscal Institute will give us the current financial state of Colorado, including the effects of the Big Beautiful Bill.

In August, Colorado lawmakers convened a special session to deal with the fiscal fallout from HR1 — the sweeping federal tax package that blew another $1 billion hole in the state budget, just months after legislators had closed a similar shortfall. The question on everyone’s mind: why would federal tax changes in Washington shrink Colorado’s revenue? And what will those changes mean for programs like Medicaid and SNAP, which now face new funding pressures? With Colorado’s unique constitutional limits under TABOR, the state’s ability to respond remains constrained. Join the Colorado Fiscal Institute for a deep dive into what happened, what’s on the 2025 ballot, and what to watch for in 2026 as Colorado works toward a fairer, more sustainable tax system.
