ACTION ALERT!
URGE YOUR STATE SENATORS TO VOTE YES ON SB26-070:Ban Government Access Historical Location Information Database, known as the PEEPS (Protect Everyone from Excessive Police Surveillance) Act!
SB26-070: Ban Government Access Historical Location Information Databaseaims to restrict how government entities access, use, and retain historical location data about individuals and vehicles and generally requires a judicial warrant for access, with limited exceptions such as consent, emergencies, or specific administrative functions (e.g., tolling or traffic enforcement).
The bill limits how long such data can be kept and prohibits sharing data outside the state or with private third parties, except in narrow circumstances. It also mandates strong data security practices, including encryption, access logging, supervisory approval, annual reporting, and staff training.
SB 26-070 will create meaningful regulations for Automatic License Plate Reader (ALPR) technology and other surveillance technology. For this bill to pass, it needs your help!
The bill will be debated on the Senate floor tomorrow. Contact your Senator today and urge them to support this important legislation!
