Last week, the Trump Administration announced the decision to rush a question about citizenship without research and testing will be added to the 2020 Census.Asking this question on citizenship basically ensures Latinx folx and other immigrant heavy populations would be underrepresented.

Given, the fear in immigrant communities about the Trump administration's targeting of immigrants for any reason, it comes as no surprise the government asking this question would decrease participation in the census, particularly in communities of color.

Why does this matter?

Immigrants, Latinx, and people of color are already under-represented groups in the political system. The census data will inform Congressional power, allocating money and resources & political representation for the next ten years.

Where does Cynthia Coffman stand?

Yesterday, she announced she supports asking about citizenship, refusing to join the 17 other states and jurisdictions suing to end the attempt at a flawed census that will under-represent communities of color for the next 10 years!

Cynthia Coffman:

As your constituents, we implore you to rethink your decision to allow the Trump administration's move to systematically under-represent immigrants & people of color in our political system!

Join the 17 states and cities suing for fair representation of ALL communities!
